An image alt tag, also known as alt attribute and alt description, describes an image on a web page. It is an HTML attribute applied to image tags and visible on the page itself. Search engines cannot interpret images, however, an image alt text provides a text alternative that can be read by search engines. Images with properly optimized alt text can positively impact a page ranking.
