The sum of the present ages of Mangesh and his mother is 70 years. Seven years ago mother’s age was three times the age of Mangesh at that time. Find their present ages. Ans. Mangesh: - 21 years. Mother: - 49 years.

Let Mangesh age be 'x' years and his Mother's age be 'y'  years

Given Condition's
sum of ​​mangesh age and his mother age is 70 years
x+y=70                      --------1
7 years ago  mother’s age was three times the age of Mangesh at that time

(y-7)=3(x-7)       ---------------2

solution:

In equation 2 ,

y-7=3x-21
y=3x-21+7     --------3

 

substitute eqn 3 in 1

x+ 3x-21+7 =70

4x=70-7+21=84

x=84/4=21

 

 

now , put x=21 in eqn 1

21+y=70

y=70-21=49
