Let assume two numbers be x and y

x be the greater number and y be smaller number

According to first statement in question

x+y=60  ------(equation 1)

According to second statement in question

x=3y+8

therefore ,  x-3y=8  -------(equation 2)

subtracting equation 1 from 2

        x+y=60

  -    x-3y =8

      -   +     -

____________

4y=52

y=13

now putting y=13 in equation 1

x+13=60

x=60-13 = 47

.: Greater number is 47 and smaller number is 13 !
