  3. Translation: The mRNA molecule carries the genetic information from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, where it serves as a template for protein synthesis during translation. Ribosomes, the cellular machinery responsible for protein synthesis, attach to the mRNA molecule and read the genetic code in groups of three nucleotides called codons. Each codon corresponds to a specific amino acid. Transfer RNA (tRNA) molecules bring the appropriate amino acids to the ribosome, based on the codons on the mRNA. The ribosome links the amino acids together in the correct sequence, forming a polypeptide chain, which folds into a functional protein.
